about the event

Strasbourg's famous Christmas market, the Christkindelsmärik, is one of Europe's oldest (first held in 1570) and spreads across several squares of the pedestrianised Grande Île: the historic market on Place Broglie since 1871, the chalets around the Cathedral, Place Kléber and Petite France. The City of Strasbourg announces the 2026 market from Friday 27 November to Thursday 24 December 2026 (noel.strasbourg.eu, read on 29 October 2026). Around 300 traders and artisans in wooden chalets offer crafts, decorations and Alsatian food. The Giant Christmas Tree on Place Kléber, the ice rink and the nightly illuminations draw millions of visitors each year (3.05 million in 2025). Free entry to the market. 2026 hours: chalets open daily from 11:00 to 21:00, from 14:00 on opening day (27 November) and until 18:00 on 24 December. The city centre is closed to cars during market hours: use the P+R car parks (4.20 euros a day in 2025, tram included for up to 7 people) or walk 10 minutes from the station.

From Friday 27 November to Thursday 24 December 2026, according to the City of Strasbourg's official site (noel.strasbourg.eu, read on 29 October 2026).

2026 hours: the chalets are open daily from 11:00 to 21:00, from 14:00 on opening day (27 November) and until 18:00 on 24 December, so that vendors can celebrate Christmas Eve. The city says Mondays, Tuesdays and mornings are the quietest times, while Wednesday afternoons, Friday evenings and weekends are the busiest.

Entry to the Christmas market is free. You pay at individual chalets for food, drinks and crafts. Drinks are served in a returnable cup with a 1 euro deposit, refunded at any drinks stall or donated to a local charity.
How to get from Luxembourg to the Strasbourg Christmas market?
Strasbourg is about 220 km from Luxembourg City, roughly 2 h 20 min by car via the A31 and A4 through Metz (OpenStreetMap routing: 219 km, 2 h 22 min). Trains link Luxembourg Gare Centrale and Strasbourg every 2 to 3 hours, a few of them direct (TGV departures at 07:13 and 11:15), the others with one or two changes. The first chalets are a 10-minute walk from Strasbourg station, and tram lines A, C, D and F stop next to the market squares.
Where to park for the Strasbourg Christmas market?
Motor traffic is banned on the Grande Île during market hours and on-street parking there was prohibited from 25 November 2025 at 22:00. The city recommends the 12 park-and-ride (P+R) car parks on the tram network: 4.20 euros a day (2025 rate) with unlimited CTS tram and bus travel for up to 7 people in the car, open 7 days a week from 04:30 to 02:00. Arriving from Metz on the A4, the route from Luxembourg, the city also suggests the Vendenheim TER station car park, with a train into Strasbourg in about ten minutes. In 2025 a temporary Zénith P+R with a shuttle bus operated on Saturdays and Sundays. The 2026 traffic and parking scheme is to be confirmed by the city.
